Late Doughan strike swings it

St Brendan's, Birr 3-6, Colaiste Eoin 0-14

Conor Doughan proved the hero for St Brendan's as his late goal saw off Colaiste Eoin in a thrilling encounter at the UCD Sportsgrounds.

There was very little consistency from either side, bar the free-taking of Colaiste Eoin's Fionain Motherway, who had a terrific game scoring nine points. St Brendan's Kevin Dunne scored a goal within the first five minutes to send out a message to Colaiste Eoin.

Both of Doughan's goals came in the second half -- his second with five minutes to go giving Brendan's a two-point lead. A Motherway free pegged it back to a point with two minutes left and, with Colaiste Eoin pushing to send the game into extra-time, the game erupted into controversy.

Colaiste Eoin were convinced they should have had a '65' after Motherway's shot appeared to take a deflection, but instead the referee deemed the ball went wide and blew for full-time.
