A sterling second-half performance from Longford's Joe O'Brien helped them to a share of the spoils against Fermanagh at Pearse Park on Saturday in a dress rehearsal for their Lory Meagher Cup final.

The Ulster men displayed the better form in the opening period and held a seven-point advantage at the break. Converted frees from Ryan Bogue and Shea Curran led the way for the Ernesiders, whose two goals were scored by Rory Porteous, while Longford kept in touch with points from Luke Kelly and Paul Barden, and an excellent goal from Cian Kavanagh.

After the resumption, Longford quickly turned things around with three points without reply. O'Brien hit the target from two close-range frees while Gareth Ghee reduced the deficit to four.

Ghee caused all sorts of problems to Fermanagh's rearguard and registered four points before the final whistle.

The midlanders refused to give their Ulster counterparts any bragging rights and Luke Kelly earned them parity.
