JBM may look to youth
JOHN Allen soldiered alongside Jimmy Barry Murphy with club and county for a long time, so his hints that Sean Og O hAilpin will be restored to the Cork panel next year have to be given credence; although JBM's past record suggests they should also be treated with caution.
JBM promoted Sean Og to the Cork senior team as a 19-year-old in 1996, but will he reinstate him to the squad at the age of 34 after being left out by Denis Walsh this year? Don't bank on it.
The average age of the team JBM sent out to win the 1999 All-Ireland final was 22.5 years, with the oldest being Fergal Ryan at 27 and the youngest Neil Ronan at 19.
Far from looking back, JBM could well go for a youth policy again which would spell the end for some other big names too.
