WEXFORD manager JJ Doyle feels that his job should come with a health warning after the events of Saturday's victory over Kilkenny at Thurles.

Wexford led by 1-5 to 0-6 as the game moved into injury-time, but a scrambled 62nd-minute goal from the Cats' Marie Dargan looked to have stolen victory. Una Leacy responded immediately for Wexford before sub Ursula Jacob then pointed the winner in the eighth minute of added-time.

"I've aged about 10 years after that," Doyle joked. "It's great to win it, but I mean, we thought we'd won it, then we thought we'd lost and then it looked like it'd be a draw and we'd be back again for the replay.

"I suppose the fact that Una got the point so quickly after we got the goal settled us again, and then Ursula showed how good she is by coming on and getting the winner."

Prior to that late drama, the game was not overly entertaining, the poor weather a contributing factor. Kilkenny led 0-4 to 0-3 at half-time, but Wexford's Kate Kelly broke through for a goal within 30 seconds of the restart.

Though Aoife Neary replied straight away with a Kilkenny point, there would be 15 minutes before the next score, but Wexford always looked in control and it seemed Kilkenny were beaten.

They summoned one last effort in Dargan's goal, but Wexford found the character to eke out the win, something that pleased Doyle.

"With a lot of teams, their heads would drop after something like that, but that one-point win is probably worth more to us today than a 10 or 15-point win.

"They showed great character there at the end, but at the same time we don't want too many games like that in the year!"
