Hyland sees off Wexford
Laois needed a strong final 10 minutes to scrape past Wexford in Rathdowney yesterday in a match they had looked like winning easily at one stage.
The Model County were left to regret a lack of discipline which Laois wing-forward Willie Hyland gratefully exploited by banging over eight frees.
Chris Murray blocked down an attempted clearance by Wexford 'keeper Noel Carton before lashing the ball to the net after 15 minutes.
The hosts added a second goal five minutes later when Hyland flicked a superb Conor Dunne sideline to the net to lead 2-8 to 0-3.
Wexford hit four points without reply to reduce the deficit to seven points by the break, 2-8 to 0-7. They continued to dominate after the restart and were just two points behind after full-forward Peter Atkinson found the net.
Wexford drew to within a point with seven minutes to play, but Laois outscored the visitors by four points to two to set up a semi-final showdown with Kilkenny.
