Galway champions Moycullen endured one of their sternest tests of the year in getting the better of Four Roads in Athleague.

The game's momentum hinged on a controversial 48th-minute Moycullen goal from Christopher Hurney which took the wind out of a gallant Four Roads side who had been on level terms, having made a marvellous start to the second half.

Niall Mannion's effort for a point appeared to drop over the bar. Four Roads goalkeeper David Moran batted the sliotar back into play and Moycullen's hat-trick hero Hurney diverted it into the net. The umpires and referee allowed the goal to stand as Moycullen went on to control the rest of the game to run out seven-point winners.
