Horgan shines as Rebels' new boys impress
Cork 2-19 UCC 1-14
CANON O'BRIEN CUP (SH): Patrick Horgan scored 1-9 as Cork overcame UCC to claim the silverware at the Mardyke.
Despite missing the injured Pa Cronin, Séamus Harnedy and Conor O'Sullivan, as well as Paudie O'Sullivan, Cork were always in control in their season-opener. Newcomers Paul Haughney, Eoin Keane and Brian Lawton all performed well, leaving manager Jimmy Barry-Murphy pleased.
"We have brought a few players into the panel and they're keen to prove a point and earn their place."
UCC, without Conor Lehane, were reliant on Willie Griffin for scores, and Stephen Moylan's goal helped Cork to a 1-9 to 0-6 half-time lead, with Horgan's late goal sealing it.
