CAMOGIE ROUND-UP

Defending champions Wexford got their National League Div 1 campaign off to a winning start with an impressive 2-17 to 0-5 win over Dublin at Oulart-the-Ballagh yesterday.

Lenny Holohan scored the first goal after five minutes, and captain Una Leacy grabbed the second with 10 minutes remaining. Holohan added three points from play and Leacy chipped in with 0-4 (0-3fs).

Aine Codd and Fiona Kavanagh scored three points each, with Ciara Storey, Caroline Murphy, Kate Kelly and Mary Leacy notching a point apiece for the dominant hosts.

Dublin's scores came from Alison Maguire (0-2), Ciara Lucey (0-2, 0-2f) and Sherry Mannion (0-1).

Galway recorded their first win of the league with a 3-16 to 1-5 victory over Clare. Emma Kilkelly scored 1-2, while star attackers Veronica Curtin and Niamh McGrath added 1-1 each.

Points from Molly Dunne (0-4) and Ashlinn Connolly (0-3, 0-1f) kept Galway in front. Nora Murphy hit Clare's goal.

Aoife Neary scored 3-2 to help Kilkenny come from behind and beat Tipperary 5-5 to 0-11. Down by a point at the break, Tipperary hit four unanswered points to take the lead, with Claire Grogan contributing eight points overall.

However, Kilkenny's ability to score goals was key, with Maire Dargan scoring and Michelle Quilty adding to the green flags raised by Neary.

In Division Two, there were wins for Galway and Offaly; Wexford drew with Down and Cork drew with Antrim. Laois continued their unbeaten run in Division Three.
