Kilkenny expect to be without All-Ireland-winning captain Brian Hogan for next Sunday's All-Ireland hurling quarter-final against Limerick in Thurles.

The O'Loughlin Gaels defender picked up a leg injury during a recent club game. He was unable to train last week or at the weekend, and he was on crutches for a number of days

While he has received intensive treatment, the injury has been slow to respond and management have more or less accepted that the 31-year-old will be a non-starter.

On the plus side, JJ Delaney is fit to resume after missing the Leinster final with a broken finger, and Michael Fennelly is also making good progress -- he's been sidelined with a broken bone in his foot since the National League final win over Cork.
