Guinan secures maiden glory for Lachtain's
Monday November 23 2009
ST Lachtain's of Freshford are intermediate champions for the first time after the Kilkenny side outscored Mount Leinster Rangers of Carlow in yesterday's hard-fought provincial final at Dr Cullen Park, Carlow.
The conditions were all against good hurling but the 2,000 people in attendance got excellent value for money as these sides from neighbouring counties slugged it out in the wind and rain.
The game's only goal came in the 48th minute. With the Kilkenny champions ahead by 0-7 to 0-5, impressive Lachtain's substitute Paul Guinan sent his older brother Eoin scampering through a Rangers defence to crash home a fine close-range goal.
Although Rangers cut the arrears to three points, Eoin Guinan finished the scoring with a point from play to give the visitors a safe margin of victory.
