Grogan strike puts paid to limp Leitrim challenge

TYRONE 4-22 LEITRIM 1-6

An impressive display by a stronger and more skilful Tyrone demolished Leitrim at Ballinamore yesterday.

The visitors were dominant from the start, but poor finishing yielded just 0-2 to Leitrim's 0-1 after 11 minutes. A Damien Casey goal in the 20th minute was cancelled out by a point and a goal by Leitrim's Clement Cunniffe two minutes later to restore parity.

However, that was as good as it got for the home side as Tyrone stepped up a gear and finished the half 1-8 to 1-2 ahead.

Garry Fox and Shea McKiver extended the lead with further points on the resumption followed by a Conor Grogan goal in the 39th minute.

The remainder of the half was all Tyrone as the Leitrim challenge never materialised and the game as a contest was over long before the final whistle.

Fermanagh 1-19

Longford 1-8

At half-time, with Fermanagh leading by 0-9 to 0-5, and with Longford yet to score from play, the newly crowned Division 3B champions were well on course for a comprehensive victory.

And so it proved as the Erne men romped away in the second half.

After a closely contested first 10 minutes, a Ryan Bogue free began the hosts' charge.

The ever-present Bogue was to be the catalyst for much of Fermanagh's forward play -- along with a fantastic first-half showing from Sean Corrigan, who registered 0-5 at corner-forward.

Longford appeared determined not to offer their opposition an easy ride, however, and the accuracy of midfielder Eoin Donnellan saw the Leinster men still in with a chance midway through the second half.

But a goal from John Paul McGarry helped Fermanagh storm into a 10-point lead and they eventually progressed to the semi-final in routine fashion.
