Galway book final spot
Galway booked a place in the Walsh Cup final following this narrow victory over Offaly in Tullamore.
John McIntyre's charges settled impressively, reeling off six points without reply courtesy of Aonghus Callanan, Joe Gantley (0-3), David Burke, and Ger Farragher, but Offaly came back and were level by the 22nd minute.
The Tribesmen had edged 0-7 to 0-4 ahead, but Offaly full-forward Ger Healion crashed home a goal to bring Joe Dooley's team back on terms. Despite the concession Galway recovered quickly, hitting three points on the spin, and a 30th-minute Gantley goal helped them to a 1-11 to 1-6 interval advantage.
Gantley was efficient after the restart too as Galway moved eight clear before Shane Dooley grabbed a 61st-minute goal for Offaly.
Offaly narrowed the deficit to three points, and might have equalised in the closing stages, but goalkeeper Eoin Kelly rifled a 21-yard free over the bar, and Galway survived.
