'Fraggy' gets nod to captain Rebels

Cork have handed the captaincy of the hurling team in 2010 to Kieran 'Fraggy' Murphy.

His namesake, Kieran 'Hero' Murphy, from the Erins Own club is unlikely to feature, however, after being left off the initial training squad.

Sarsfields' Murphy captained his club to Cork success in 2008 and held the line during last winter's strike. He takes over from John Gardiner.

Cork have named Shane O'Neill, one of their most talented defenders, as Murphy's vice captain.

Cork had their first official training session on Monday and most of the regulars, with the exception of the Newtownshandrum contingent who are preparing for their All-Ireland club semi-final, were present.

However, Timmy McCarthy is not expected to continue with the team.
