A tally of 1-7 from full-forward Darragh Flynn and a late Stephen Walsh goal helped De La Salle advance to the Harty Cup quarter-finals at Ardmore yesterday.
Playing with the aid of the elements, Chriost Ri edged the first-half exchanges to earn a 1-7 to 0-6 lead by the interval.
Eanna Dennehy rattled the net for the Cork outfit on 23 minutes after he collected a long ball in from Stephen Cronin.
Their midfield dominance and Alan O'Callaghan's four frees left Chriost Ri deservedly ahead.
On the resumption, though, De La Salle stormed back into contention when Flynn fired home a bullet on 32 minutes to leave the Waterford school only a point in arrears. Flynn's accuracy and the impact of substitute Chris Breheny then saw them open up a two-point advantage.
Chriost Ri stayed in touch through O'Callaghan's precision from placed balls and De La Salle's wayward shooting, and with 10 minutes remaining, the sides were all square at 1-12 each.
However, De La Salle found the crucial goal a minute later when Walsh was on hand to finish after Shane McNulty's point effort rebounded off the post.
