Midleton 2-8 St Flannan's 0-12 MIDLETON CBS shocked Harty Cup favourites Flannan's to land the title at Cashel yesterday.
Flannan's looked set for victory at half-time as they led Middleton 0-9 to 1-1 and only for a brilliant save by Midleton 'keeper Ciaran Cronin just before half-time St Flannan's would have been beyond reach.
However, the Cork side were transformed in the second half. They scored 1-7 to Flannan's 0-3 and were deserving winners when the final whistle sounded.
On a sticky pitch, which wasn't conducive to good hurling, the two teams served up a contest that may not have been pretty but was totally gripping all through as every player gave his all to secure victory.
St Flannan's led by five points at the interval, hitting eight unanswered points during a first-half purple patch.
After the break, Midleton centre-forward, Robert White, who was their outstanding player all through, sent over a point. Flannan's replied but Midleton slowly began to dominate and a goal from a free by Evan O'Keeffe in the eight minute reduced the deficit to a point.
It took a while to get the equaliser but as the match progressed Midleton's dominance, helped by a strengthening wind, became more pronounced.
