Fitzgerald on target
KILDARE secured their place in the Kehoe Cup semi-final with a seven-point win over a spirited Louth team in Darver yesterday.
An evenly-contested affair saw both sides level going into the 20th minute of play.
Kildare looked to have seized the upper hand with unanswered scores from Paddy Maloney and Tony Murphy but Louth hit back when Gary Rellis managed to scramble the ball into the net from close range to make it 1-3 to 0-6.
A five-minute spell just before half-time gave the visitors a stranglehold. Donal Maloney, Tony Murphy and Martin Fitzgerald all hit points before Fitzgerald ran on to a Murphy pass to smash the ball into the Louth net.
Kildare's half-time lead never looked in doubt despite efforts from Gerard Smyth in the second half and late scores from Murphy and Fitzgerald ensured a last-four berth for the Lilywhites.
