Roscommon survived a late Mayo rally to win the inaugural Connacht intermediate hurling title at McHale Park, Castlebar.

The sides were level at the interval thanks to Liam Kilcline's goal just before half-time and midfielder David Flaherty's point on the whistle.

Sean Regan was in excellent point-scoring form for Mayo, nailing all but one of their first-half tally. Donal O'Brien was the only other contributor with the first score of the game.

Mayo went two ahead in the second half but Garry Fallon produced two big scores for Roscommon in the last 10 minutes.

Regan, who finished with 10 points, made it a one-point game with another long-range free but Robbie Fallon's late free left Mayo searching for a goal that never came.
