THREE goals inside the first 15 minutes eased Louth to a first win of the campaign in Darver and leapfrogged them over Longford at the foot of the table.
Gary Rellis tapped home the first goal from close range after just 51 seconds.
A similar strike from Gerard Smyth made it 2-2 to 0-1 after 10 minutes and when David Mahoney fired in number three, Longford were facing a 10-point deficit.
They rallied briefly, but Louth upped the pace again in the run-in to half-time to take a 3-6 to 0-6 lead into the interval.
Substitute Tommy Stakem fired in an early second-half goal to give Longford hope, but the comeback never materialised, and Declan Tanner was shown a red card.
