THREE goals inside the opening 12 minutes proved decisive as Castlecomer CS eased to a deserved seven-point victory in this third-series Leinster Colleges 'A' Senior Hurling Championship game at Enniscorthy yesterday.
Castlecomer made the ideal start with a goal inside the opening minute from full-forward Charles Dwyer, followed by further goals from Andrew Carroll and Brendan Brophy.
The sides went on to exchange two points apiece, with the Castlecomer points coming from Ian Shortle and Eoin Bergin, and the hosts' scores from Walter Furlong and Richard Farrell.
The eventual winners led 3-2 to 0-3 at the interval, however.
St Mary's showed a big improvement on the resumption as Brendan Kearney's 48th-minute goal reduced the deficit to four points.
Castlecomer, though, kept their composure and finished strongly to run out comfortable winners.
