Meath ended their losing sequence in this basement battle at Pairc Tailteann.

The hosts produced a strong second-half display, despite captain Stephen Clynch seeing red on 50 minutes, with Derek Doran and Nicky Horan doing the bulk of their scoring in that period.

A goal on 21 minutes from Cathal Carvill steered the visitors to a 1-9 to 0-10 interval advantage.

Two Doran points had the sides level within three minutes of the restart and Meath established a grip on proceedings after a 50th-minute Peter Durnin goal. That put the home side ahead 1-14 to 1-12 and they remained in control thereafter.

Armagh also ended with 14 following the dismissal of Ryan Gaffney near the end.
