Defending double champions St Kieran's didn't take long to send out the message that they are a force to be reckoned with again this year, when they dished out a big beating to visitors Good Counsel (New Ross) in the opening round yesterday.
Twice during the early stages the teams swapped points, but once David Burke clipped home a goal for Kieran's from the right edge of the square in the ninth minute, there was only going to be one winner.
And from there to the break, free-taker Michael Donnelly -- who finished with a haul of 0-13 -- arrowed over points at will and at the interval the eventual winners led comfortably, 1-10 to 0-3.
And Kieran's kept up their fine form at the start of the second half with two great points from the on-fire Burke.
Good Counsel were hit for a second goal when Ciaran Prendergast finished to the net in the 38th minute to make the scores 2-16 to 0-3.
They pulled one goal back almost immediately through Mark Aylward, but the game was already decided.
