Galway finished strongly in Athenry to earn a place in the semi-finals, even though the impressive Darragh Burke had a 53rd-minute penalty saved by Cork 'keeper James MacSweeney.

Barry Keane rifled over two points to give Galway a late advantage, but Rickard Cahalane trimmed the deficit before Darragh Dolan added the insurance point. Cork's Declan Harrington had a last-gasp goal opportunity, but the defence smothered his shot and the Tribesmen survived.
