Divilly strike punishes Meath

KILDARE registered their maiden Kehoe Cup title in difficult conditions at Trim.

Two third-quarter goals were enough to give the Lilywhites the breakthrough, though Meath have only themselves to blame after squandering numerous chances in both halves – they eventually finished with a tally of 16 wides.

A fortuitous Paul Divilly goal on 43 minutes put Kildare into a 1-6 to 0-8 lead. Tony Murphy netted a second minutes later.

Meath relied on the accuracy of Paddy Conneely throughout and they reduced the deficit to three points on two occasions in the final quarter.

However, captain Divilly pointed two frees and sub Ross Kelly was also on the mark as Kildare held on for a deserved win.
