Derry no-show sets alarm bells ringing

It may have passed off as a footnote on the news of the day, but the fact that Derry conceded a walkover to Antrim in the Ulster U-21 hurling semi-final on Wednesday should be of serious concern to the GAA.

It's always alarming when a county doesn't field a team but when it's the likes of Derry, who would have been seen as a feisty hurling force trying to move up the rankings, questions have to be asked.

However, Croke Park have no power whatsoever in the matter, since the walkover was in provincial competition.

Hopefully, the Ulster Council will demand answers from Derry. After all, it's only four years since Derry won the Ulster U-21 title. So what's going wrong now?
