Deise crisis

JUSTIN McCarthy's seven-year reign as Waterford hurling manager ended last night.

McCarthy released a statement announcing his resignation after being informed that his own players had passed a vote of no confidence in him after Sunday's crushing defeat to Clare.

The players expressed their feelings, along with a list of training requests, to County Chairman Pat Flynn, who spoke directly with McCarthy yesterday.

Flynn then hastily convened an emergency meeting at Walsh Park late last night and the players also met for the second time in 48 hours.
