Cyril Farrell: Passionate Cody raring to go again
I met Brian Cody at a charity hurling game a few weeks ago and came away with the impression that he couldn't wait for next year.
It's great for Kilkenny and for hurling that he's staying on for a 16th year and the fact that he has moved quickly to add James McGarry and Derek Lyng to the management set-up shows that the planning for 2014 is already under way. Ominous!
The celebrations moved south of Kilkenny last Sunday as Waterford enjoyed a great minor success. It's a huge boost for Waterford and shows how much good work is being done at underage level. There was a tendency to think that after losing so many big names in recent years, the county's fortunes would dip, but it hasn't happened and all the signs are that the next five years carry exciting potential.
It's a long way from 1993 when Waterford seniors lost to Kerry in the Munster championship, followed by four successive first-round defeats from 1994 to '97.
