Curtin inspires rusty dubs

Dublin 2-16
NUIG 0-12

Dublin produced a strong final quarter to eventually account for NUIG by 10 points in their second round tie at Portmarnock on Saturday afternoon.

A rusty Dublin recorded 15 wides throughout but they opened the scoring in the third minute with Shane Ryan and All Star Alan McCrabbe pointing.

However, NUIG kept in touch with frees from the impressive Finian Coone and John Conlon's superb point from the left-hand touchline had the sides level at 0-4 apiece after 18 minutes.

The home side regained the initiative through a David Curtin point and a smartly-taken goal from Kevin Flynn on 24 minutes after Paul Nihill had failed to clear a long Mick May delivery.

The rest of the half belonged to NUIG and two frees apiece from Coone and Conlon ensured the students restored parity by the interval on a 1-5 to 0-8 scoreline.

However, two long-range points from Johnny McCaffrey helped Dublin to a one-point lead midway through the second half.

Curtin crash home Dublin's second goal after 55 minutes as they eased into the semi-finals.
