DEFENDING Hurling champions Calry-St Joseph's claimed their seventh title since 2005 with a 22-point rout of an outclassed Coolera-Strandhill at Markievicz Park.

Although familiar talisman Keith Raymond, a growing force in road cycling, supplied seven points, including an array of long-range frees, it was fellow midfielder Ronan Cox who stole the show.

Cox fired 2-2 in his team's complete performance and his ninth-minute close-range goal, as well as David Colleary's similar strike after 24 minutes, set up the holders for a 10-point interval lead, 2-8 to 0-4.

Three second-half goals from Cox, Colleary and Gilmartin further emphasised Calry-St Joseph's dominance, with Cox's 36th-minute acrobatic strike the outstanding pick of these major scores.

The winners featured several dual players – Calry-St Joseph's feature in next Saturday's Sligo IFC decider against Drumcliffe-Rosses Point – and three of these, Danny Keown, Conor Griffin and Kevin Gilmartin, were very much involved here.

Coolera-Strandhill, for whom Gary Cadden scored four points, never got a foothold, having been overpowered in all sectors on the pitch.
