Corbett sees red as Sarsfields go down

Jackie Cahill

LAR Corbett was sent off again as 2012 Munster senior club winners Thurles Sarsfields crashed out of the Tipperary senior hurling championship.

Sars lost by 0-12 to 0-15 against Eire Og Nenagh at the Ragg, with Corbett dismissed in the fifth minute for a striking offence. Nenagh were also reduced to 14 men when Billy Heffernan was red-carded but the 1995 county champions still pulled off a sensational result.

Sarsfields were forced through the back door in the quest to successfully defend their county crown, having lost out to Drom & Inch in the mid-divisional championship. But the star-studded town outfit coughed up their Tipperary and Munster titles as Nenagh advanced to the next round.

Once again, Corbett found himself hitting the headlines for the wrong reasons. The 32-year-old attacker was also sent off in the National Hurling League final against Kilkenny last month .

Meanwhile, Eoin Kelly was also sent off as Mullinahone lost by a point against Killenaule in the South SHC semi-final. He scored all 11 points for Mullinahone but was dismissed late on for a second yellow.

Killenaule will meet Carrick Swan in the South final. Elsewhere, a novel north Tipp senior final was assured as Kildangan and Silvermines advanced to the divisional decider.

Silvermines, county and Munster intermediate champions last year, scored a 0-16 to 0-15 semi-final win over Borrisoleigh, as Kildangan ran out 2-18 to 1-16 winners over Toomevara.

Loughmore-Castleiney and Drom & Inch will contest the Mid final after coming through their semi-finals against Moycarkey-Borris and Upperchurch-Drombane respectively. And holders Clonoulty-Rossmore will take on Eire Og Annacarty/Donohill in the West decider.
