Cody's Cats get shake-up

KILKENNY boss Brian Cody has picked nine of the side that started last September's epic All- Ireland final win over Tipperary for tonight's NHL opener against the Premier County in Thurles.

However, Cody has shaken his side up somewhat with Jackie Tyrrell and JJ Delaney picked in the half-back line alongside Tommy Walsh despite operating in the full-back line for their most recent Liam McCarthy Cup success. Willie Dwyer and PJ Delaney make up the midfield combination with Michael Rice shifting to centre forward.

Cody was forced to plan without his Ballyhale Shamrocks contingent as they prepare for an All-Ireland club decider against Galway's Portumna.

Elsewhere, Kinnity goalkeeper James Dempsey is the only debutant on the Offaly hurling team to face Cork in their league opener against Cork in Páirc Ui Chaoimh tomorrow.

Dempsey gets the nod ahead of regular stopper Brian Mullins, who has only recently returned to training with Joe Dooley's side.

In the NFL Division 4 Emlyn Mulligan will be looking to put his injury nightmare behind him today after recovering from a cruciate knee ligament operation to take his place on the Leitrim side for their clash with Kilkenny.

Meanwhile, Shane Lennon returns at full forward as Louth manager Peter Fitzpatrick makes six changes from the side that lost to Sligo last time out for the O'Byrne cup final clash with DCU.
