Coady strike proves key
Mount Leinster Rangers 1-13 Celbridge 0-13
JOHN COADY'S first-half goal proved the difference in a game that produced three red cards in Newbridge.
Despite being reduced to 14 men after 23 minutes when Mark Moloney was given a straight red card following an off-the-ball incident, Celbridge were level at half-time, 0-10 to 1-7. Seven first-half points from free-taker Billy White kept the Kildare champions in the game, but Coady's goal would prove telling come the finish.
A double sending-off in the 41st minute -- Celbridge full-back Fiachra O Muineachain and Mount Leinster Rangers corner-forward Willie Hickey -- added to the drama of an absorbing contest.
Celbridge summoned their resolve to move two points clear with 15 minutes remaining, but the Carlow champions showed their class in the final quarter, scoring five unanswered points to claim the Leinster crown for the first time.
