A 100-metre pointed free from Rhys Clarke seconds from the end snatched a draw for St Peter's College in this exciting Leinster College's 'A' senior hurling championship game at Kilkenny yesterday.
Birr CS dominated the opening 30 minutes, with Liam Brady and Andrew Connolly controlling midfield, and Andrew Browne in commanding form at centre-back.
Brendan Murphy, Philip Hogan and Paddy Mullins picked off some excellent points that left them leading 0-8 to 0-2 at the interval -- which would have been greater given a little more accuracy in front of goal -- with Clarke hitting their opponents' two points.
Scores from Eoin Hogan, Murphy and Seamus O'Connor kept Birr CS six points ahead as the game moved into the final quarter.
But an Eoin O Donaghain goal 12 minutes from the end set up an improving St Peter's, who rescued a deserved point with Clarke's huge late free.
