Centra seal hurling deal

CROKE Park was alive yesterday with the enthusiasm of young club hurlers and representatives of the nationwide Centra network for the announcement of a three-year sponsorship, WRITES Liam Kelly.

The leading convenience brand becomes an official sponsor of the All-Ireland Hurling championship, effective immediately, replacing RTE, and GAA president Christy Cooney said: "The existence of what is the most extensive retail network in Ireland will further assist our efforts to promote and market, not only the Championship, but the game itself."

Centra's MD Donal Horgan said they had 474 stores around the country "who have a shared passion to take this uniquely Irish game into every community in Ireland -- young, old, urban, rural, settled, and emerging."

Henry Shefflin (Kilkenny), Ben O'Connor (Cork), John Mullane (Waterford), Ollie Canning (Galway), David O'Callaghan (Dublin), Neil McManus (Antrim) and Eoin Kelly (Tipperary) attended the launch.
