Cats start without Tyrrell and Fennelly
ALL-IRELAND champions Kilkenny must start tomorrow's Leinster's SHC semi-final against Dublin without Jackie Tyrrell and Michael Fennelly, as well as ongoing absentee Henry Shefflin, writes Cliona Foley.
Regular midfielder Fennelly is included among their substitutes, but veteran defender Tyrrell hasn't even made it that far. The four-time All Star corner-back was forced out of their defeat of Offaly two weeks ago after just six minutes with a quad muscle injury and Conor Fogarty now takes his place.
Fennelly was forced to sit out that game with an ankle injury and, despite making a good recovery since, he has still not made their starters. Kilkenny have made two other changes, both in attack. Cillian Buckley replaces TJ Reid on the '45' and Walter Walsh comes in for Aidan Fogarty at top of the left.
Whoever loses the game will join tomorrow's beaten Munster semi-finalist, plus Tipperary and Laois, in the second phase of the All-Ireland series, the draw for which will be broadcast on RTE Radio 1 on Monday morning (8.30).
A separate draw will be held to determine home venues for Phase 2, to be played on July 6. The winners of those games will then play the Phase 1 winners for All-Ireland quarter-final spots.
