Canter for Castlecomer

Castlecomer CS 2-15
Westmeath Schools 0-8

The Westmeath Schools team, minus their large and influential contingent from Colaiste Mhuire in Mullingar, were no match for Castlecomer at St Loman's Lakepoint Park yesterday.

Despite being under-strength, the home side started well and led by 0-4 to 0-2 after 14 minutes against a wasteful Castlecomer side.

However, an unanswered 2-1 within a 90-second period just past the midpoint of the first half effectively settled the contest, the goals coming from Stephen Daly and Eoin Bergin.

The winners led by 2-7 to 0-5 at the interval and were never really troubled in the second half by a game, but limited, Westmeath outfit.
