LIMERICK IT turned on the style to book a place in the quarter-finals as DCU's bid to make the knockout stages never got off the ground.
The game was over as contest by half-time, Davy Fitzgerald's charges having surged into a 1-11 to 0-5 lead.
Tipperary All-Ireland winner Seamus Callanan led the way with a powerful performance at full-forward.
The Drom & Inch clubman was the perfect target-man and fired over frees from a variety of angles and distances.
Callanan, who had been doubtful through injury, hit 1-3 in the opening half, including a goal from a 20-metre free, and added a further 0-6 before he was given a rest.
Limerick IT are not laden with as many stars as in former years, but they won all the major battles throughout the field – only two DCU players, Seanie McGrath and Padraig Brehony, managed to find the target.
In contrast, 11 Limerick players got on the scoresheet with points from all angles, and their margin would have been even bigger had they not shot 12 wides, eight of them in the opening half.
A lucky goal from impressive captain Sean Collins five minutes after the restart killed off any hope of a DCU revival and Jamie Fitzgibbon got Limerick's third major three minutes from time to cap an impressive display.
