Six Ronan Byrne points from frees and four each each from Ger Smith and Dermot Murphy secured the win for the Wee County.

Smith struck four in the first half to help the Leinster side to a 0-7 to 0-4 interval lead, with Justin Kelly on target twice for the Red Hands.

In the second period, Louth stepped up the tempo, and Byrne and Murphy displayed unerring accuracy from placed balls, while substitute David Lavery kept the home side in touch.

Louth were too strong, and could have had a couple of goals, but for two fine saves from Tyrone goal-keeper Niall Gallagher, who denied Shane Fennell and substitute Colin Connolly.
