Burns leaves it late for Leitrim

A Liam Burns injury-time goal and point secured a first victory for Leitrim in the current campaign when they overcame a strong South Down at Carrick-on-Shannon yesterday.

Two first-half goals by Michael McCartan and Liam Morgan put South Down in control but Leitrim stayed in touch with a Mark Hayes goal in the 35th minute which left the half-time score 2-4 to 1-4 in favour of the visitors.

In an exciting second half, goals by Leitrim's Burns and South Down's Paul Sheehan in the 40th and 41st minute was followed by the dismissal of Leitrim's Padraic McWeeney. Both sides exchanged points for the remainder of the game with Leitrim pulling ahead in the closing minutes for a deserved victory.
