Big Dan barbs won't hurt Davy
DAN Shanahan's latest comments on the Waterford management suggest that he's not best pleased with Davy Fitzgerald's continuing tenure.
"Don't be surprised if he gets another year with the county board that are there. But that's their decision," he said on Monday.
Shanahan (right) was frustrated with the level of his involvement in last year's championship which, after an indifferent display when starting against Clare in the Munster semi-final, was confined to substitute roles.
Being unhappy with that is fair enough from his perspective, but does he really believe that Fitzgerald should no longer be manager? For the record, Waterford have won a Munster title, reached an All-Ireland final and three semi-finals and maintained their place as third in the country behind Tipperary and Kilkenny in the overall ratings since Fitzgerald took over following a player revolt in June 2008.
So, whatever personal reservations 'Dan the Man' may have, the real surprise would be if Waterford didn't want to retain Fitzgerald.
