The experience of losing the last two county finals inspired Western Gaels, as the west Sligo outfit won their first title at this level with a convincing defeat of newcomers Coolera-Strandhill at Markievicz Park.
Western Gaels had the better of the first half, leading 1-9 to 0-4 at the break -- the goal a 12th-minute effort from Michael McGowan -- with full-forward David Barrett supplying five points.
Coolera-Strandhill's best spell came midway through the first half when they managed three unanswered points, with two coming from their top scorer Gary Cadden.
When wing-forward Derek O'Brien netted Western Gaels' second goal five minutes after the restart, his side were 2-10 to 0-4 ahead and en route to a merited win.
