Banner need boost of good outing against champions

Cyril Farrell

THE one fear I would have for Clare in Limerick tomorrow is that they could concede a few early goals, leaving them chasing Tipperary from some way back.

If that happens, they're on a lost cause but if they succeed in hanging on for the first half, then they will give themselves a real boost.

It's impossible to envisage a Clare win but if they emerge off a good performance, it will leave them in good shape for a qualifier clash with Wexford or Dublin/Galway.

Clare will be encouraged by the way they pushed Tipperary to the limit two years ago and they also like playing at the Gaelic Grounds.

Those are the little positives they must stack up and then work really hard.

Still, it will be a bridge too far for them against a Tipperary team with sky-high confidence and a solid championship work-out already behind them.

It was interesting to hear how people questioned Waterford's performance while praising Limerick to the hilt last Sunday.

Granted, it wasn't one of Waterford's best days but they achieved what they set out to do and will be a different proposition in the final.

It's all about getting to finals -- how you achieve it isn't all that important.
