Clare had no problem in dismissing the challenge of a rather hapless Down at Cusack Park.
The fact that they had two players sent off, one in each half, didn't help the Mourne men's cause. The outcome was inevitable from the 18th minute when Down wing-back Kevin McGarry was dismissed on a second yellow card.
By the time full-forward Aidan Clarke joined him inside the first minute of the second half, Down's challenge had evaporated -- they were 2-12 to 0-2 behind at the interval.
Clarke was sent off on a straight red for a wild pull that caught Clare captain Pat Vaughan on the hand.
Two first-half goals by Caimin Morey in the 22nd minute and another from a penalty by Colin Ryan on 25 minutes cemented Clare's supremacy.
Down shipped three further Banner goals, two by sub Diarmuid McMahon and another from Ryan after he picked up a loose ball in the 53rd minute.
