Banner ease to Kerry victory

Clare 6-23 Kerry 1-18

IT was all one-way traffic at Cusack Park yesterday afternoon as Clare cruised to a 20-point victory over Kerry in Ennis.

The win pushes the Banner men closer to a place in the Division 2 final, a position they can secure next week if they overcome the challenge of Laois.

The outcome of this tie was clear long before the final whistle was blown. A brace of goals from John Conlon helped the Clare men to a 2-9 to 0-4 lead at the end of the opening quarter. The home side went on to hold a 4-15 to 1-6 half-time advantage thanks to further goals from Nicky O'Connell and Diarmuid McMahon.

Clare added 1-3 without reply in the opening five minutes of the second half, with another strike from McMahon pushing them further ahead.

As the game drew to a close Clare conceded some easy frees which Darragh O'Connell punished, notching an impressive tally of 11 frees in total.
