LAST year it took three games for Ard Scoil Ris to see off Thurles in the final; yesterday their quarter-final was all but settled after 15 minutes.

Superior in most areas of the field, Ard Scoil Ris were particularly well-served by centre-back Declan Hannon, along with free-scoring Shane Dowling and John Fitzgibbon up front.

Their 14th-minute goal was the key score -- Fitzgibbon availing of the rebound from Oisin Hickey's attempt -- but by then they'd already put seven points on the board.

It was a bad-tempered affair at times, boiling over even before the throw-in and again just before the final whistle, when referee David Copps sent off Ard Scoil's Mark Ryan and Michael O'Brien of Thurles.

Scorers -- Ard Scoil Ris: S Dowling 0-9 (4f); J Fitzgibbon 1-2; O Hickey, J Shanahan 0-2 each; B O'Connor, K O'Brien, M Carmody, D Hannon (f) 0-1 each. Thurles CBS: A McCormack 0-6 (6f); K Slattery 1-0; P Ralph, M Sadlier, D Burke, J Meagher 0-1 each.
