Ace Bergin fails to halt NUIG march
NUI Galway 1-24
St Patrick's College 1-12
NUIG booked their place in the last four after seeing off the limited challenge of St Pat's at Dangan yesterday.
The Galway college have not won the title in 30 years and, despite amassing a big score yesterday, they will need to step up several gears tomorrow week at Pearse Stadium if they are to advance to the following day's final.
Once again the accuracy from placed balls by Finian Coone was a key factor in NUIG's victory. However, the superb stickwork of St Pat's captain Mark Bergin was the highlight of the encounter with the promising Kilkenny star crowning a fine display with 10 points, mainly from frees.
Pat's led three times in a tight opening half before a brace of points from Clare's John Conlon helped NUIG lead by 0-12 to 1-6 at the interval.
The Galway college hit three points in as many minutes after the restart and they never looked back from there.
