Abandoned U-21 semi-final gets new date
DUBLIN'S 2009 U-21 hurling final will go ahead belatedly in the coming weeks despite expectations that it might be cancelled and the title awarded to Cuala after one of its semi-finals was abandoned after a brawl.
The U-21 semi-final between Craobh Chiarain and Na Fianna, which the latter was leading by a point, was abandoned by the referee with just a minute of extra-time left after players from both sides were involved in an ugly melee also involving spectators.
Despite a lengthy investigation by Dublin's Competitions Control Committee (CCC), no player has been suspended.
The only punishments were fines of €500 for each club and the game has now been refixed for next Wednesday at a neutral venue.
Southside club Cuala, current Dublin U-21 football champions, have already qualified for the final, which was originally due to take place on February 13.
