Willie Mullins goes for a first at Tipperary
CHAMPION National Hunt trainer Willie Mullins breaks new ground tomorrow when he saddles Blue Bullet in the Listed Danehill Dancer Tipperary Stakes.
A winner at Cork on his debut in heavy ground, the Red Clubs colt steps back to the minimum distance on the advice of jockey Gary Carroll.
Mullins is no stranger to plundering big prizes on the level with his older dual-purpose horses but admits he is something of a novice when it comes to training two-year-olds.
"I'm not sure the race he won at Cork has worked out very well, but there are very few other opportunities to run him," said Mullins.
"Hopefully he'll handle the ground, he handled it on his debut, but we are coming back in trip with him tomorrow because when Gary rode him the last day he said he'd be better off over five for the time being. We'll see how he gets on.
"One thing I haven't had, I don't think, is a runner in a two-year-old Listed race. I have plenty of horses that can run on the Flat but I've never had many two-year-olds.
"I don't take them anywhere else to work, we do it all at home so we're never quite sure what we've got."
