After Fields Of Athenry danced up in a Listed race at Leopardstown six weeks ago, he appeared in this corner as a decent option at 20/1 for the Great Voltigeur Stakes.
Sadly, Aidan O'Brien has other plans. Ridden by Seamie Heffernan, Fields Of Athenry won a Leopardstown Group Three last week. He's now 10/1 for the York Group Two but instead looks to be Ebor-bound.
The classy son of Galileo has been allotted 9st 2lb and needs one to come out to get a run in next Saturday's prestigious event, which hasn't been won by a three-year-old since Mediterranean scored under Mick Kinane for O'Brien in 2001.
It's hard to know if Fields Of Athenry's liking for front-running will be a pro or a con in such a competitive handicap, but, as of now, he is as low as 6/1 to win the St Leger. If such a lofty position in a Classic market is remotely warranted, then 9/1 about him winning an Ebor whilst in receipt of weight all round looks generous.
