Watching brief

Make Your Mark and Make A Track, two Gigginstown Stud-owed horses fancied by this corner at Leopardstown last weekend, both came out of their respective defeats with their reputations intact.

The Willie Mullins-trained Make Your Mark, having won its three previous races on good, good to firm and soft, did well to finish third behind stable-mate Boston Bob on heavy ground in last Sunday's good novice hurdle.

It was only on the approach to the last hurdle that he gave best, a fair effort on the back of just one run over flights.

Charlie Swan's Make A Track, likewise a novice, was set an even more daunting task in the big handicap hurdle on Saturday, and wasn't beaten far in sixth.

Both horses have decent futures ahead of them.
