Watching brief

ON HIS OWN ran out a decisive winner of the Goffs Thyestes Chase on Thursday, but Adams Island is one that caught the eye in defeat in the Gowran Park feature.

Jumping problems have hindered the eight-year-old's progress since his switch to Paul Nolan's care.

However, after a few sketchy early efforts, this time Barry Geraghty got his mount into a lovely rhythm.

Turning in, the partnership looked set to have a big say, only for the conditions to take their toll when push came to shove. In the end, Adams Island kept on for fourth and he would be of real interest on slightly better ground next time following this confidence-boosting effort.
